Spine Impairment: ROM Method in Depth
The Range of Motion method is more demanding than DRE and it gets misapplied more often. This course walks through the ROM method end to end: inclinometer technique, measurement validity, the Straight Leg Raise rule for lumbar validity, the neurological component, and how to combine all of it into a defensible whole person impairment rating.
What's in This Course
A working tour of the ROM method as it is actually performed in clinical practice. The course covers inclinometer setup and technique, region-by-region measurement, the validity rules that determine whether the data can be used, and the integration step that produces a final WPI rating.
- Inclinometer types, selection, and setup
- Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar ROM measurement
- The sacral hip flexion angle: required, often missing
- The Straight Leg Raise rule for lumbar validity
- Sensory and motor grading for the neurological component
- Combining ROM components into a final WPI rating
Who Should Take It
Physicians and chiropractors who perform spinal impairment ratings and need confidence in the ROM method, particularly when DRE does not apply. We recommend completing the DRE & ROM Overview course first if you are new to spinal impairment rating; this course assumes you understand the basic decision between the two methods.
