Introduction to Nevada Workers' Comp Law
Nevada workers' compensation law governs how permanent partial disability (PPD) evaluations are performed, documented, and submitted in the state. This course covers the statutory framework physicians need to understand before sitting the NIRSAT certification exam and before performing PPD evaluations under NV Rev. Stat. 616C.110.
What's in This Course
Nevada calls what the AMA Guides describe as an "impairment rating" a permanent partial disability rating (PPD). The terms are used interchangeably in clinical practice, but PPD is the term Nevada physicians, attorneys, and the DIR all use in their documentation. This course is taught by two Nevada workers' compensation attorneys with opposing practices, one representing claimants and one defense, so you hear the legal context from both sides.
- NV Rev. Stat. 616C.110 and the NIRSAT certification requirement
- How the Nevada DIR administers and enforces the requirement
- AMA Guides 5th Edition within Nevada's workers' compensation system
- DIR reporting and the physician directory listing process
- Renewal obligations by license type (MD/DO vs. DC)
- Documenting and defending PPD evaluations in Nevada proceedings
Who Should Take It
Nevada-licensed physicians who perform, or intend to perform, workers' compensation PPD evaluations: MDs, DOs, and DCs preparing for the NIRSAT exam, plus physicians outside Nevada who occasionally handle Nevada cases. The course is recommended preparation before NIRSAT registration. For the full Nevada compliance picture, see our Nevada requirements page.
Questions About This Course
Is this course really free?
Yes. The course content is free. A free AAEME account is required to access it; account creation collects your professional credentials for certification tracking purposes and takes less than two minutes.
Does this course earn CME or CEU credit?
No. CME/CEU credit is not offered on Foundations courses. If you need formal continuing education credit, see our certification courses.
Does this course satisfy Nevada's NIRSAT requirement?
No. This course is recommended preparation, not a substitute for NIRSAT certification. Nevada physicians performing PPD evaluations under NV Rev. Stat. 616C.110 must complete the 5th Edition Advanced course and pass the NIRSAT exam. See the Nevada requirements page for full compliance details.
Why does Nevada call it "PPD" instead of "impairment rating"?
Nevada workers' compensation statutes use permanent partial disability (PPD) as the official term for what physicians clinically calculate as an AMA Guides impairment rating. The underlying methodology is the same, but Nevada documentation, DIR forms, and case law all use PPD. This course uses Nevada's terminology throughout so it matches what you will see in practice.
Which edition of the AMA Guides applies in Nevada?
Nevada workers' compensation has historically used the AMA Guides 5th Edition. Edition specifics for this course will be confirmed and noted here. For current statutory references, see the Nevada requirements page.
